This summer, a new crop of boutiques add renewed excitement to shopping in Waikiki.

Traveling yogis have an “om-worthy” yoga boutique to visit in the courtyard of The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort. Kapalili Hawaii, which opened on August 10, 2019, is owned and operated by Yoga Instructor: Shoko Yamanaka, who was the first Japanese national to become a certified SUP Yoga Instructor in 2012.

Kapalili means “excitement” in Hawaiian, and Shoko aims to pass that feeling on through daily yoga sessions in the Coconut Grove at The Royal Hawaiian at 8:00 AM, and with SUP yoga classes at Ala Moana Beach Park. See kapalili.com for the full class schedule and price list.

Kapalili Hawaii will also carry Shoko’s original line of yoga and active wear, along with yoga mats and towels.

Martin & MacArthur, the local brand known for their Koa wood furniture and accessories, opened a new concept gallery with a distinct focus on local artists at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort on August 4, 2019. 

Displays include works from Eva Makk, whose art is featured throughout The Royal Hawaiian, local watercolor artist Chase Silver, original oil paintings and limited edition giclees from renowned Hawaii artist Walfrido, life-size honu and monk seal Koa sculptures by Big Island craftsman Craig Nichols, and more.

This Martin & MacArthur concept gallery will also host a Martin & MacArthur exclusive, officially-licensed Disney Fine Art Collection line entitled: “Magic in Paradise.” These works depict Hawaii-centric Disney characters in a Hawaii setting, and this line cannot be found anywhere else.

Waikiki Beachboy: The Collection opened at The Royal Hawaiian on July 31, 2019. This is the retail and logo store for Waikiki Beach Services, the well-established ocean activities brand founded by Waikiki Beachboy Ted Bush, which has provided surf lessons and beach rentals on Waikiki Beach for decades.  

Waikiki Beachboy: The Collection carries UPF50+ WBS logo rash guards, T-shirts, swimwear, and other beach essentials such as tote bags and reef-friendly sunscreen. They also recently launched a collaboration T-shirt featuring Hello Kitty and The Royal Hawaiian. These collaborative items can only be purchased at this location.

Ukulele PUAPUA opened its second location on Kaiulani Avenue at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani on July 19, 2019. They currently carry the largest selection of ukuleles in Waikiki, and have been in business for over 18 years. The new store will offer complimentary ukulele lessons, a weekly schedule of which will be released at a later date.

The Waikiki Christmas Store opened a new location at the Sheraton Waikiki on July 1, 2019. The new location features over 1,000 different customizable ornaments, which can all be personalized on the spot by their in-house artists. Ornaments are Hawaii-themed, and include designs such as pineapples, surfboards, ukulele, Hawaiian Santa, and more.

Opened on July 1, 2019, Maulu Honolulu specialty is smartphone covers. Their selection in Hawaii is similar to those found at the popular cellphone accessories store Collaborn by Samurai Works in Japan, which have cleverly designed slots for credit cards and cash. The new shop will also feature Hawaii-exclusive items such as a sun-tanned items of the iconic American character: Betty Boop, and trendy round beach towels.
